Tea Reputation for Maintaining Health

Do not leave your habit of drinking tea. That’s the latest advice of experts. Various research increasingly shows, tea turned out to have a big role to prevent many serious diseases.

This statement is a bit controversial, given that many health version adopted today is increasingly healthy with fruits and vegetables. But fans of tea including John Weisburger PhD physicist who has twice led the international scientific symposium on tea and health-insisted, tea is much more useful. Some studies did show, tea found in China 4,000 years ago and slowly into the Western civilization, could prevent cancer and heart disease.

People may have a lot to know, tea is the main content of tannin and caffeine, which has been considered to inhibit the absorption of key minerals for bone formation. It turns out that opinion is not true, because researchers from the University of Cambridge School of Medicine, England, proves the opposite: drinking tea can prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women (see also Tea Prevent Osteoporosis Women Taxable).

Tea does contain antioxidants known as polyphenols, which appear to play a major role in the prevention of various diseases including osteoporosis. Polyphenols itself is kind of bioflavonoid found in many plants including coffee, fresh red grapes, red beans, raisins, plums, and also drink red wine.

According to Weisburger as quoted by CNN.com, polyphenols 100 times more effective than vitamin C and 25 times more effective than vitamin E. Polyphenols work to neutralize free radicals, a byproduct of the body’s chemical processes is quite disturbing. Ability is what might be the answer, then why tea can also prevent heart attacks and cancer.

Other studies have shown, the tea would be a promising weapon against stomach cancer, bladder, esophagus, prostate, even the breast. Studies in China also says, the smokers who usually drink tea reduced the risk of lung cancer.

How tea works against all that? A priority to be called, of course, is the content of polyphenols that work in three ways.

First, polyphenols prevent free radical damage to DNA and stop the development of cells that become cancerous wild early. Second, the polyphenols are able to control the growth of cells and mengambat unbridled development of cancer. Third, certain polyphenols can destroy the cancer without damaging surrounding cells.

While related to the heart, the researchers found that women aged over 55 years every day at least two times black tea, 54 percent less likely to develop atherosclerosis than those who did not drink. Atherosclerosis is a blockage of blood vessels that can trigger the emergence of a heart attack or stroke. The more tea you drink, the more decreased the risk.

The study, published in the Archive of Internal Medicine states, polyphenols act as a deterrent possibility of bad cholesterol (LDL, low density lipoprotein) trigger accumulation of plaque that can clog arteries. And because it prevents atherosclerosis, antioxidants in tea also facilitate the arteries that send blood to the heart and full of nutrients throughout the body.

However, Weisburger cautions that herbal tea drinkers do not expect to get similar benefits. Because herbal teas are made from various plants and herbs that it often does not contain polyphenols at all.
